·2 Blog – Part way through the essay, Paine says that ‘panics can produce as much good as hurt.’ What does he mean by this? Do you agree?
On page 700 Thomas Payne talks about panics. When he says that panics can produce as much good as hurt he refers to panics in general, panics that nations have in war and panics we have as humans. He says that if people panic and aren't confident, the fear will cause them hurt because their on a panic attack. He refers to the English being in fear of the French fleet. He also states that panic comes for a short amount of time, and the mind gets use to them. I agree with his statment that panic can cause as much hurt as good. Panic is good because it causes adreneline, it makes you make a quick plan. If a nation, or someone is in panic they have to make a decision quickly without much thought. In conclusion, Thomas Payne was trying to convince the colonist towoards independence.
